1545 Mom, Grandma, Nana passed away peacefully from Alzheimers and COVID-19 on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
Catherine (Cathy) Marie Maxwell (nee) Green was born May 11, 1936 in Big Sandy, MT to Florence (Tormey) and Frank Maxwell, the third of four children. Working on the family ranch from sunrise to sunset gave Cathy the strong work ethic for the rest of her life. But it was not all work as she had fun with her “besties” Shirley Marty and Patti Pokorney. While working as a secretary for the President of Bison Motors in Great Falls she met a rakish man, James (Jim) Green. They were married November 1, 1957 in Great Falls, MT. From this union came five children: Cindi-1958 (Gary); Shelley-1961; Nancy-1962 (JIm); James-1964; Robert-1971. After Cindi was born they moved to Southern California where the other four children were born. After a move to New Jersey where they lived for a few years, the family returned to MT settling in Billings.
With the children older, Cathy went back to work, retiring as head bookkeeper for a doctors’ group. During this time Cathy became Grandma to 10 grandchildren, then Nana to 8 great grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed and loved them all.
Cathy was involved in various activities with the Shrine through her husband Jim, but was herself a member of White Shrine and a Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile.
Catherine is predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers Tom and Frank, 1 sister Arrie, husband Jim and daughter-in-law Christine. Catherine is survived by her 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, various other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services will be Thursday, October 22, 2020, at 3;00 pm at Smiths West Funeral Chapel. Due to COVID 19 masks will be mandatory as well as social distancing observed. Internment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Spokane, WA.
